Mystic you said ?


You probably may ask yourself about the reason behind the name of our blog, “Mystic Marvin“, which doesn’t sound like anything IT related… In fact, neither vCendra or myself is called Marvin and guess what… this has nothing to do with any Belgian beer :p

The idea behind that is more to wink at Dell EMC & VMware project code names.


Back in 2014, VMware announced EVO:RAIL resulting from Marvin project, a packaged appliance co-engineered with hardware partners like EMC who called it project Mystic.

These appliances were intended to run vSphere Suite, vSAN & vCenter Log Insight. The goal was to have an EVO:RAIL implemented in 15 minutes from initial power on to the first VM startup.

That is to say, in 2016 the solution evolved to VxRAIL and is now a major actor from the HCI world.
